About

The clue is in the name.

A butler anticipates, handles the difficult bit quietly, and never makes a fuss about it. That is a fair description of what a good web studio should do too, so we took the name and tried to live up to it.

Why we exist

Too many businesses are paying for a website that does nothing.

Somebody sold them a brochure. It looked fine on the day, it went live, and then it sat there for six years quietly failing to bring in a single enquiry. Nobody measured it, so nobody noticed.

We started Web Butler because that is a daft way to spend a few thousand pounds. A website is a piece of business equipment. It should have a job, it should be good at it, and you should be able to tell whether it is working.

So that is what we build. Sites that look genuinely good, because that matters, but which are designed backwards from the enquiry rather than forwards from the homepage.

How we work

Four things we will not budge on.

We tell you the truth about your budget

Including when the honest answer is that you should spend less than you were about to, or that the thing you asked for will not fix the problem you have. It costs us work occasionally. It has never cost us a client.

Speed is not optional

A slow site loses visitors and loses rankings, and no amount of good design rescues it. Every site we build is measured on how fast it actually is, not on how it feels on the office broadband.

We stay after launch

Most of the value in a website shows up in the two years after it goes live. That is when things need adjusting, and it is when most agencies have stopped answering. We do not drop the mic once the main performance is over.

Your data is yours, and it is honest

Every site we build is set up so you can see what is genuinely working. No vanity dashboards, no reports designed to make us look good. If something is not performing, you will hear it from us first.

Who you actually get

A small studio, on purpose.

You will not be handed to an account manager who has to go and ask someone else. The person you talk about the work with is the person doing it. That puts a natural limit on how many projects we take at once, which is the trade-off we are happy to make.

Questions

The practical stuff.

Where are you based, and does it matter?

Sheffield, at Solpro Business Park on Windsor Street. Plenty of our clients are local and we are always happy to meet. Plenty more are nowhere near, and the work happens perfectly well over a call and a shared screen. Pick whichever suits you.

How many projects do you take at once?

Deliberately few. It is the only way to keep the person you spoke to as the person doing the work. It does mean there is occasionally a wait, and we would rather tell you that up front than squeeze you in and do a worse job.

What sort of businesses do you usually work with?

UK businesses where the website has a real commercial job to do: trades, manufacturers, care providers, professional services, venues. Around a hundred so far. If you are curious whether we have done anything in your world, ask, and we will tell you straight either way.

What if we already have a website we quite like?

Then do not replace it. Sometimes the right answer is to fix the speed, sharpen the messaging and sort the search side out, which costs a fraction of a rebuild. We will say so if that is what we find.

Come and tell us what you need.

No pitch, no pressure, no forty-slide deck. Just a proper conversation about the business and what the website has to do for it.

Sheffield based. Working with businesses across the UK since day one.
